Kinja'd!!!

Just got a call back from the place doing the PPI. Annnnnnnnnnd it’s fucked. They caught a bunch of misfire codes on every cylinder but one, noticed a metallic sound in the engine, and reported an excessive amount of metal in the oil and oil filter.

I’m disappointed but happy. They’re not charging me the full $300 for the PPI because they found what they found early on. Now I just hope I don’t have any trouble getting my deposit back. Not a big deal either way as I put the deposit on a CC and will just contest the charge, not that I’m expecting a problem from the dealer.

They saved an oil sample and the oil filter as extra proof for the dealer.

I’m a bit bummed but, on to the next one. Dodged a bullet here.

Whenever I think “this one looks so good, maybe I can skip a PPI”, I think of the times like this where it’s saved me. Bullet dodged

Doesn’t sound like the price is representative of the condition so if the dealer is reputable I’d hope they are thourghly embarrassed!

PPI is always a smart move.

On the bright side, you clearly found a good source for PPI’s in the future - good on them, they treated you right!

Bummed? If I were you I’d be super happy that I was smart enough to get it inspected and I didn’t end up stuck with that thing. Imagine what your repair costs would have added up to after the first ten thousand miles, if it even made it that far.

That’d be my takeaway from this as well.

Absolutely, I just stopped by the shop the guys were awesome! The tech that looked at it took me back and showed me the oil sample which looked like someone spilled glitter in it. He also told me what to look for as I keep shopping.

Everyone also loved my M3, so I made a couple friends, locked down a great Porsche inde shop, and didn’t buy a really shitty car! The more time that passes the better I feel.

I’m only bummed because I’ve been picturing myself in the drivers seat all week. I am super happy though the guys at the shop were great, I learned some stuff and didn’t buy a trash car.

I was thinking the same thing. I always go for rad colors and this one was rather bland.

I hate it didn’t work out for you, but glad you got a competent shop to complete the PPI and save you from a yuuuuuuuge mistake. The good news is Porsche made quite a few 997s, so you’ll find one that better suits you later.
